Glossary of Terms



  • LoS- Line of Sight: An unimpeded path between two points.
  • NLos - Non Line of Sight: A totally impeded path between two points.
  • nLos - Near Line of Sight. A slightly impeded path between two points.
  • T1 - Circuit Defined as 1.544 Mbps (Megabits per second).
  • T3 - Circuit Several T1 circuits bonded together by hardware.
  • DS3 - Circuit Defined as 44.736 Mbps. Approximately 30 T1's.
  • PtP - Point to Point. Also known as P2P.
  • Mb - Megabits, equal to 1,048,576 bits of data
  • Mbps - Megabits per second Gb Gigabits, equal to 1024 Mb of data
  • Gbps - Gigabits per second.
  • Carrier Class - Refers to hardware and software used in large, high-speed networks. It implies extremely reliable, well tested and proven. Telephone companies, major ISP’s and large enterprises utilize carrier class equipment.
